It's very hard to make a determination about this bug because Geoff's message
indicating that the patch is the wrong approach does not give any hints about
why, or what the right approach would be.
Given that this problem only occurs with non-default options, I'm not going to
approve this patch for 3.4.0.
(We might fix one bug and introduce another, and it's too late for any kind of
speculative changes. It's clear that this change can only affect
-mlong-double-128 compiles, which is good -- but it's not clear that it can only
affect them favorably.)
