Unfortunately I can't offer much insite into this problem. Someone with solaris experience/access
will have to help debug it.
My first suggestion would be to get a backtrace of the SIGSEGV as Jeff mentioned here:

As Jeff mentions, getting a SEGV on solaris is not "normal" because we build with -fcheck-
references.
