and obviously that fails.

I reproduced this with gcc-3.3, but the current gcc development sources worked correctly. So this has already been fixed in the gcc development sources. This fix will appear in gcc-3.4. -- Jim Wilson, GNU Tools Support, http://www.SpecifixInc.com
