I would "presume" that gcc/configure is smart enough to figgure this out.
You're having problems in this area? You could always put it in and see
what happens.

I can send the build log and config log if you want.
The GCC installation documentation states that for Solaris systems not
running a 64-bit capable kernel or which do not have 64-bit userland
component installed must specify "--disable-multilib" on the configure
command line.
