I'll give it a spin today. However, Richard Henderson's suggestion of
using "CONFIG_SHELL=/usr/local/bin/bash" was no less than miraculous.
It reduced my bootstrap time from over 14 hours to under 5 on AIX v5.1.
I'll time your patch both with and without setting CONFIG_SHELL.
