I am reluctant to call this a bug, perhaps I am simply doing something
wrong. Some dynamically linked executables have been failing with the
error message
ld.so.1: display: fatal: relocation error: file display: symbol __register_frame_info: referenced symbol not found
Killed
where "display" is the name of the executable, the same error occurs
with different executables.
This referenced symbol must be a symbol that gcc is inserting, because
it does not appear anywhere in the source code or include files. In
fact, it does not appear in the object files either. It only appears
in the symbol tables of executables, and of shared libraries created
with "gcc -shared". It does not appear in the symbol table of shared
libraries created with "/usr/ccs/bin/ld -G", but executable files
attempting to share into such libraries still fail.
I grepped all the info files for "register_frame_info". There is no
documentation whatsoever on this symbol.
I recompiled with -DDWARF2_FRAME_INFO (this may be complete nonsence,
but it seemed from the documentation that it might be related to this
problem) and it make no difference whatsoever.
Finally, there are some executable whose symbol table contain
unresolved references to __register_frame_info which I am nevertheless
able to executable. Other executables, however, not noticeably
different in any way, cannot be executed without producing the fatal
error.
As I indicated in my subject line, I am using gcc 2.95.2 on solaris7.
My binutils are Version 2.7.
What am I doing wrong? Please give me a fix that does not require me
to download something from the Internet, because I do not have
Internet connectivity, although I can send and receive electronic mail.
I thank you in advance for your reply.
