Synopsis: NEWS out of date and confusing
State-Changed-From-To: closed->analyzed
State-Changed-By: jsm28
State-Changed-When: Fri Nov 2 01:05:13 2001
State-Changed-Why:
This PR still represents the overlap between gcc/ONEWS
(to which NEWS was renamed) and the online EGCS 1.1 release
notes - as I previously explained to Mark and Neil, but
they didn't CC the lists on their messages.
The Fix part of this PR originally read:
Resolve the position of gcc/NEWS (and gcc/cp/NEWS, but that seems to
be up to date) versus the online release notes. If the NEWS file is
obsolete, have it start with a cut-off pointing to release notes for
all more recent news. If it is not obsolete, make it agree with the
release notes.
which made this clear enough. At some point, someone seems
to have removed that text. Unfortunately, GNATS does
not keep a proper audit trail showing changes to miscellaneous
parts of the text of a PR and what the previous text was
- but original PR text should never be removed, only added
to, since removing it reduces the usefulness of a
bug tracking system by making it necessary to refer back
to list archives again.
