Why not? All that GCC is *supposed* to require, is a POSIX compliant make.
If GCC requires GNU make extensions, that'd be a GCC bug.
If FreeBSD make is not sufficiently POSIX compliant, that'd be a FreeBSD
make bug.
At least that was my rationale. :-)
