Compiling kernels

Hello, there,

I wish to compile, on a RedHat Linux 6.2, the kernel 2.2.17 (patch for a
2.2.16) and the new glibc-2.1.3, without the bugs on ld.so.

The problem is that I have installed the gcc-2.95.2, compiled and
builded from scratch.

The problem is that I have read about bugs in the gcc, that means to use
only egcs to compile kernels and the libc.

Is it true?

Or can I use both the gcc and egcs, as an example, egcs only fo root to
compile the kernel?

I wish to know something about that problem,

Thank you
