checking to see whether the C compiler (gcc ) works .... no
get this everytime. tried uninstalling/reinstalling, still no joy... any
help?
Not until you've looked at the config.log, to see exactly what gcc command failed, and maybe what the error message was. This may clue you in, and, if not, may give someone something to go on.
