I believe the patches I submitted this past week should fix that.
IIRC, the report of this problem here stimulated my fixing it
in g77 0.5.23 (based on gcc 2.8), though it has taken until very
recently for the relevant patches to make their way back to egcs.
So, if egcs-g77 still installs its .info files even when $(LANGUAGES)
does not contain "[fF]77", I'd say that's a bug. Probably a missing
patch that I can dig up easily enough. But perhaps just installed
after the 1998-06-15 snapshot, so try the next one.
