but still some minor problems:-)
I get this, when compiling 2.1.104:
gcc -D__KERNEL__ -I/usr/src/2.1.x/linux/include -Wall -Wstrict-prototypes -O2 -fomit-frame-pointer -pipe -mno-fp-regs -ffixed-8 -Wno-uninitialized -c -o page_alloc.o page_alloc.c
page_alloc.c: In function `free_pages':
page_alloc.c:208: internal error--unrecognizable insn:
(jump_insn 337 329 338 (return) -1 (nil)
(nil))
{standard input}: Assembler messages:
{standard input}:337: Warning: Missing .end or .bend at end of file
gcc: Internal compiler error: program cc1 got fatal signal 6
This is caused by the __builtin_return_address(0) in free_pages().
When I change the builtin_return_address for a 0, it gets compiled.
Thomas.
PS: egcs version 1.0.3a and gcc -v gives:
Reading specs from /usr/lib/gcc-lib/alpha-redhat-linux/egcs-2.90.29/specs
gcc version egcs-2.90.29 980515 (egcs-1.0.3 release)

See, you not only have to be a good coder to create a system like Linux,
you have to be a sneaky bastard too ;-)
