Clearly the right decision, at least for the present.
It also make it simpler to play around with the
library - including building it as shared library [by default and on
purpose only a static library is built].
I assume that is intended to be a temporary position while coarrays
stabilise (in the standard and libcaf).
However, we are also considering to support the automatic building of
libcaf_mpi together with GCC.
A good idea for the longer term, but there is little point until things
stabilise.
