There is something intrinsically appealing about writing a compiler in it's own language. The ada
folks seem to have pulled this off; at the cost of adding a lot of restrictions on bootstrapping.
On a higher level, it is a test of the expressiveness and depth of the language to be used to
implement itself...is F95 up to the job. ( i think, yes).
Just random mutterings...Paul, i think it would be a cool thing to do; but a lot of effort..well
worth some day-dreaming on, however.
