Of course, we'd better have someone fix the original bug, but it
doesn't look like it's going to happen soon :)

Bootstrapped and regtested on i686-linux. It does clear the testsuite
for i686-darwin.


I have no objection to committing the workaround.  However, I
do think you should ping the individuals listed as darwin
maintainers:

Well, it's a VRP bug and it's been looked at by a middle-end maintainer recently.
I'd give it another couple of weeks.
