I cannot come up with a small reproducer for this behavior. Weird. However, a quick scan of bugzilla shows a bunch of C++ vs. VLA issues, so I'm going to let this part drop. I'm checking in the attached patch. It's mostly the same, with the change to use __builtin_alloca, which is consistent with the rest of the library. (via Ulrich.) tested x86/linux best, benjamin
