I've just had confirmation (from Ted Teah) that the process of assigning
any changes I make to libstdc++ to the FSF is now complete. That means
that this (rather elderly) patch is now available to you:

assuming it's still useful! I'm sorry for the delay - the forms got hung
up with one of my bosses.
