[I just got back from being away, so excuse the loss of context on
this old thread.]
Doh! I had trouble determining if gcc-3.1 (release) libstdc++-v3 was
newer that 3.0.97 or not (the status page at
http://gcc.gnu.org/libstdc++/status.html didn't [and still doesn't]
help). I guess I determined wrong...
