Till they can figure out how to properly distribute the code under the
GPL, and check all their legal arrangements they made over the code. My
suspicion is that they will try to get it all done for JavaOne in May
(or at least those parts that are unencumbered).
Some Sun engineers discussed some of their plans with the rest of the
community last month at Fosdem. You might find their slides interesting:

Meanwhile it seems gcj is doing pretty well even without the extra code
from Sun. Check out the latest Fedora 7 test release for example:
