What would it take to get gcj on the release criteria list?

I can't say for certain, as that is a GCC SC decision.

My personal opinion is that it would take a GCJ user and development community rivaling the size of the GCC or G++ communities. I recognize that's a pretty high bar.

I should say that, of course, and as Joe suggested, I'd certainly much prefer GCJ to be in great shape when a release goes out, and I'd certainly *not* ship if there were a critical GCJ bug that looked like it was about to get fixed in a way that was not likely to put the rest of the compiler at risk.
