I know Jeff wants that too. I'm ambivalent, honestly. I do think the
new implementation is more reliable than what is in 3.0.

This is something we need to work out in a long-term way. It was too
much work for the time I have right now :-(. But in principle I agree
with you. Doing this fully will mean merging java.text, which is a
largish job.
