If he's willing to do that then it would be fine.  Could you ask him?
Make sure he knows what he's getting into though.  For instance he'll
lose a lot of control over the program, as people with global write
privileges are free to ok random changes to it.  In fact, this has
already happened to the fastjar in our tree.
