Could the -Og patches for 4.8 be back-ported to 4.7.3? Or is there important
4.8 dependencies that would make this not practicable?

The patches to add -Og shown on gcc.patches list don't look extremely
extensive.

This would be for personal use and not necessarily proposed for general
release.

Well, you can easily try - there shouldn't be any dependencies not in 4.7
but there were also some late followups to deal with issues in TER.

My effort to port patches to 4.7 started OK with the first couple files but I quickly realized I had no idea what to do with passes.c since it is extremely changed between 4.7 and 4.8. After that, I decided to try to build 4.8.

I'd be more interested in seeing feedback about the usefulness of -Og in
real-life (using 4.8, that is).

Build of 4.8 is almost there for arm-none-eabi. I will try to see what it does.

Richard.

Thanks,
