I have no idea about the hypothetical future GCC 4.7.4, but I guess that the general policy would
be to avoid such a significant patch ...

But they may depend of other improvements in 4.8

For personal use it is so much simpler to just build GCC 4.8 and use it.
No good reason to stick to a patched GCC 4.7
