I leave that task to my ICI friends (in CC). They have already an implementation, and I believe they probably did propose some patches, or are working on it.

However, it is not a small patch.

Also, I still believe that a hook for tha pass manager may make sense to those brave souls wanting to experiment new pass managers in plugins, etc. Having a hook for that is a way to encourage such crazy experimentations.
