Find the copy in the mailing list archive. For instance, your first post:
http://gcc.gnu.org/ml/gcc/2008-02/msg00018.html
Look at the "raw text" version of the post.
http://gcc.gnu.org/cgi-bin/get-raw-msg?listname=gcc&date=2008-02&msgid=Pine.GS
O.4.58.0802021000330.21150%40gateway.ece.neu.edu
(http://tinyurl.com/2zuhtb to avoid wrapping)
You can see the "From" and "Return-Path" headers are of the form:
"gcc-return-<DECIMALNUMBER>-listarch-gcc=gcc" bla bla bla.
That decimal number is the index number of the post in the list archive.
You can get the mailer daemon to re-send you a copy of the original post by
sending a blank email to "gcc-get.DECIMALNUMBER" at gcc dot gnu dot org.
When the resent copy arrives, you can then reply to it as normal.
cheers,
DaveK
