The problem is that people don't fill in these fields on a
consistent basis, or, for a native compiler, they pick one of the
three to fill in and leave the others blank, but they make different
choices.

I suppose that the form could ask whether it's a native, cross, or
Canadian cross, and then expose the extra fields, but that might be too
painful and it doesn't fix the existing data.
