I investigated a bit, and it seems that unlike gcc.gnu.org, www.gnu.org 
lacks the latest revision (at least) of the bin/preprocess script in our 
wwwdocs module:

  revision 1.43
  date: 2006/06/10 21:52:24;  author: gerald;  state: Exp;  lines: +2 -0
  Use sed to work around MetaHTML brokenness wrt. <DIV>.

I have contacted the GNU sysadmins and asked them to update to the latest
version of the script.
