This question is not appropriate for gcc@gcc.gnu.org, which is a
mailing list for gcc developments.  It is appropriate for
gcc-help@gcc.gnu.org.

-p does work on GNU/Linux systems.

That is presumably the call to mcount which records the profiling
information.
