Same here. In C++ land it also has many of the std::numeric limits
properties of alpha.

Regardless of what happens with 4.3, I think the reality is that s/390
has been one of the better supported platforms for gcc since at least
3.2.x. The maintainers are very responsive and gcc-testresults is
updated on a daily basis for multiple machine configs (390, 390x).

IMHO this is the kind of behavior we as a group want to encourage.
