Sure, if you like (you have a copyright assignment and are write after
approval, so you can create branches).
Otherwise, we'll just publish it some other way.

This is not a worry, branches get thrown away all the time :)
if we don't go the Boehm's GC route. And

This is also not a significant worry, we can always create a second
branch if necessary.
