A close approximation to that could be had by enabling keyword substitution
for DATESTAMP and changing its content to "$Rev$". We'd then get version
strings like
"4.1.0 $Rev: 105363$ (experimental)", which I think would be fine. The magic
for getting rid of the stamp in an official release is all in gcc/Makefile.in
and shouldn't be affected.
The catch, though, is DATESTAMP is also used to set the value of __GLIBCXX__
over in c++config.h (see libstdc++-v3/include/Makefile.am). I'm not sure what
to do about that.
