Sure, but other projects do it differently.

On every checkin, an eMail is generated and an entry appended
to an automatically rotated ChangeLog file. (Thanks to the
(neglected by the other BSDs) update to GNU cvs 1.12, I can
even add changeset-like facilities.)

Sure, it's a change. I was just trying to hint people
that it might be worthwhile to think about it, and a
bit curious myself what the GNU developers say about
that.
