In selecting a new VCS (or contemplating such a selection)
I hope that GCC hackers will consider a few factors:
(a) the importance to GCC of decentralized development
(b) the architectural vulnerability of some systems to malicious
attack as exemplified by the thwarted attack on the CVS mirror of
the linux kernel (caught only by virtue of BK's virtue)
(c) the GCC project's de facto role as an example of
careful and conservative practices
(d) the basic and distinctive sanity of arch which, despite
its (repairable) defects, is (imnsho) the only sane
direction on the map. Yes, I'm asking that you please
forget for the moment what an ass I have been/am capable
of being and just focus on the technology I advocate.
(e) the importance of "development on branches" in GCC and the
attention given to "development on branches" by arch hackers
I suggest a "go slow" approach which includes exploring ways
to work with arch hackers to develop a GCC-project-friendly
arch solution.
Thanks,
