This is something I'd really like to see make it in.
I suspect Paolo's changes are going to help improve the
cross-compile build mess (which has gotten a bunch worse
since the good old days of gcc-2.95.3/glibc-2.2.5).

I'd love it, but how could bootstrapping (which is strictly a native configuration busineess) help it? :-)
