gcc needs to go in /opt not /usr/local/bin.
/usr/local/bin is reserved for sysadmin scripts etc.
Perl had the same problem. If you need to run
more than one version of perl you have /opt/perl.xxx.
If you dump everthing in /usr/local/bin you may over
write custome bins, scripts used locally.
Is there a depot version of gcc that has /opt as the
Install tree?
