Applied to all active branches (like Matthias, all my testing yesterday was 
done with it).

I also took the liberty to backport a few tweaks to SPARC-specific testcases 
in the testsuite.  They fix spurious failures that arise when you test the 
32-bit compiler with -m64 and the 64-bit compiler with -m32.  They have been 
in my tree for quite some time and in mainline/3.4 branch since March.
