I think we should consider changing the version number to gcc-4 when the
tree-ssa branch goes in. This will be a major potentially disruptive
change. Changing the major version number will better reflect this. It
also gives us the possibility of maintaining gcc3 and gcc4 in parallel
for a while to ease transition problems.
