Which versions of autoconf/automake to use...

When one updates a configure.in or Makefile.am and then checks in changes to cvs (something I anticipate but have not yet done), the configure and Makefile.in (and other things as well) are to be regenerated with autoconf/autoheader/automake.

The versions of these programs that I have allow me to generate all of these configuration files so that work on my system.

Q: Should I just autoconf/autoheader/automake with my versions and check in, or should I be using a spicific version of the tools?

Thanks, David Daney.
