Hi.
Are there any plans to include an option to allow misaligned memory
read/writes for the sparc processor type, similar to the Sun compiler's
- -misalign option ? (mips could use this too IIRC).
I found 2 postings on the list requesting this feature but no informative
answers:
http://gcc.gnu.org/ml/gcc/2002-09/msg00728.html
http://gcc.gnu.org/ml/gcc/2003-05/msg01897.html
what this option should do (in it's most simple, basic and brute-force form)
would be to force all read/writes to be byte read/writes and generate code to
mask/shift as needed for the desired data type.
This also relates to other postings I've seen on the list, where structs are
created out of raw data from files fail to work because of misaligned
members.
In any case, I'd like to add my vote in request this feature ;)
cheers.
