I have checked in my alias.c patch for PR 10021 and PR 11319.
Adding it after the 3.3.1 release gives us more time to study the
effects of it, in particular the concerns about performance regressions.
This was done with Mark Mitchell's permission.
In order to better evaluate the affect of the patch on performance, I've
ordered a copy of the SPEC CPU2000 benchmark, and I am planning on
buying a PowerPC machine. So sometime soon I will be able to do PowerPC
performance testing.
