3.3.1 build failure on SuSE 2.4.20

Apologies if I shouldn't be sending this to the list---I figured that as
3.3.1 was about to be announced I should waste your time and hassle you
directly.  I picked up 3.3.1 from a mirror site but it failed to build
on

Here's the info, the full build log is attached.  It seems to be due
libtool.
