gosh, I would have expected the contrary. You're right in that we
need to investigate that behaviour.

I hate to send "me too" messages, but I would like to strongly second your
proposal for having quaterly releases from a stable branch. That,
I believe, increases the chance to achieve "major goals" for a given
major release. I'm not convinced that we should make two or three
major releases in a year.
