- Subject: A GNU High Performance Computing Initiative?
Hello, all!
I've been discussing OpenMP with Steven Bosscher, one of the developers of
the g95-gcc Fortran 95 compiler. He brought up an interesting idea:
> It would certainly be a great thing to have some kind of "GNU High
> Performance Computing Initiative" with some relevant sub-projects, e.g.
> - OpenMP for GCC (though IMHO auto-SIMD'izing is more important...)
> - GNU MPI
> - GNU basic clustering tools
I asked him about bringing the idea up before the gcc community at large,
since any such effort would be tightly-tied to the GNU compilers. He agreed,
and so here it is: an idea.
I would very much like to see a GNU MPI implementation, plus GPL'd tools for
clustering. Given the growing interest in supercomputing and parallel
programming, I think now is a good time to begin.
Considered comments are always welcome.
