port to intel 8086, 80186, 80286; NEC V20, V30

I'm looking for an open source c compiler for a NEC V30 CPU (instruction set
is identical to Intel 80186, I believe).

Considering that gcc supports many other microcontrollers, wouldn't it be
appropriate to support these cpus? Whilst old, the 16bit x86 CPUs still seem
to be used in many embedded systems.

So how is the general feeling about this port to 16bit x86?
Has anyone started anything in this direction yet?
Who's willing to help -- knowing nothing about gcc internals, I probably don't
stand a chance to do a decent port myself, even if I find the time.

Thanks!

Björn Stein
