cross-compiler build problem on Mac OS X - _gt_ggc_r_gt_darwin_hundefined

In case this is a trivially obvious problem to someone....

Any idea what's wrong here?  I synched up from mainline last night, 
and it chugs along until
we discover we're missing something in the garbage collector (I think)
