FYI, RTH's patch now fixed this bootstrap failure for me (and closed
target/5996), so I hope you're back to bootstrap land as well. ;-)
Just that now we have a different problem on sparc-sun-solaris2.8:
checking size of long long... 8
checking size of float... 4
checking size of double... 8
checking size of long double... 16
checking size of void *... 8
checking whether byte ordering is bigendian... cross-compiling... unknown
checking to probe for byte ordering... guessing bigendian ... unknown
configure: error: unknown endianess - sorry
