I successfully bootstrapped GCC 3.0.4 (C compiler only) in NetBSD/vax 1.5.2:

# uname -a
NetBSD  1.5.2 NetBSD 1.5.2 (GENERIC) #7: Sun Aug 19 12:43:34 PDT 2001     matt@cougar.local:/u1/kobj/GENERIC vax
# ./config.guess
vax-unknown-netbsd1.5.2
# /usr/local/gcc3/bin/gcc -v

Configured with: ./configure --prefix=/usr/local/gcc3 --enable-languages=c
