Is it possible that gcc already knows any of these initializer rules. I have 
read Section 6.7.8 and made some short tests. I found no problem with C99
initializations like
struct abc { int a; int b; int c; };
struct abc abc = { .a=5, .b=6; .c=2; };

Funny thing, I have never seen such a structure.
