I doubt anybody has tried to build it in a while. I have a set of
patches that allow bootstrapping 3.1 on vax-dec-ultrix4.3. 3.0.x
is probably in a little better shape than 3.1. The VMS specific code
has probably rotted but I suspect if somebody was motivated it could
be fixed up fairly quickly from the alpha port.
